How to Improve Your CIBIL Score in 90 Days

You cannot fix a score overnight, but a focused three-month effort can move it enough to change your offers.

How to Improve Your CIBIL Score in 90 Days

Credit scores respond to recent behaviour, so a disciplined 90-day window genuinely shows up on your report. Here is where to focus.

Weeks 1–2: get your report and read it

Pull your full report from at least one bureau. Look for accounts you do not recognise, loans marked open that you have closed, and any wrong "settled" or "overdue" status. Dispute errors immediately — corrections can take 30 days.

Weeks 2–12: pay every bill on time

Set auto-debit for every EMI and card bill. A single missed payment in this window undoes the rest of the effort, so this is non-negotiable.

Weeks 2–12: bring utilisation down

  • Pay your card balance down to below 30% of the limit — ideally below 10% just before the statement date.
  • If you can, make a mid-cycle payment so the reported balance is low.
  • Do not close old cards; that shrinks your total limit and raises utilisation.

The whole window: no new applications

Avoid applying for any new credit during the 90 days. Each hard enquiry costs a few points and signals risk. Once the window is done and the score has moved, apply for what you actually need.
